Fresh experience once again
My sincere apology for writing after such a long time but I have a valid reason for it. Actually for the past few weeks I have bee into a fulltime schooling mode. And with your permission I share the detail below.
It’s been more than six years since I joined journalism or rather the business of writing. I had written on everything as one of my bosses at previous organisatiion rightly put it ‘from birds to beast’. From social issues to politics and crime and business partly, but never got a chance do a specialization. Now, after six years of experience in the industry I decided to go for a specialization. Without any intention, almost by accident, landed up at a very ‘narrow lane’- it was automotives. Though if I go by my previous concept of the issue of writing it was really a narrow but as I got into it, I realized it was a huge sea where I have to keep finding gems to give to my readers. Every other day I realized myself as a fresher and every experience as a new. Now it’s been almost two months since I joined in and here every experience and learning is a great excitement. For this I would extend my heartiest thanks to my colleagues and the industry people who welcomed me, a new entrant, with wide open arms.
Let me just share an experience. Last week I attended a dinner with some foreign delegates of a leading automotive component company. They were in India to meet the journalists. Only three journalist from India (automotive experts were invited) were invite, two of them were quite seasoned and famous journalist for their long term association with this industry and the third lucky guy happens to be me, it was by accident and situation that I descended there. Among the two, I had already met one of them at some other event (As both of them are at high position so they normally don’t join the events) while other has never seen me. At the end of the dinner, we started chatting and he (the journalist whom I met here for the first time) suddenly says ‘I wonder how you suddenly appeared; I have never seen you before’. He was absolutely right and I acknowledging his statement, told him, ‘it was not your fault I am a new entrant in the clan and hope you will welcome me.’
So the journalism generally perceived and taken as one umbrella is in reality is divided with strong walls which never allow one to peek through others. So if you cross one territory enter into another, you have to be a foreigner for a good period of time until you don’t understand the new territory at least reasonably (if you are not a good actor to pretend at least). I had the fair idea that what I was going to do wasn’t that easy. So in the last two month I had put up all the efforts to know at least a bit of the new territory of automotive to be able to get a rented accommodation, which was the maximum target apparently. I am happy that in this short time period, now I have a nice villa with a good decoration –though on rent. My efforts are on and wish to get a citizenship and own at least an apartment in the territory of automotives. Till then I keep striving at Infomedia 18, the printing arm of media conglomerate Network 18 Group. I take the opportunity to thank IANS for filling some knowledge which is highly relevant in my perseverance.
Congrats on your new beat - sounds wonderfully interesting!
